Rules
Welcome to Gehenna, the ugly RPG about betrayal and emotions.

If you're new to Gehenna, or any Roleplaying Games for that matter, this'll teach everything you need to know before playing. You'll be the downer of the party, reccomending an awful game to ruin everyone's mood in no time!

Let's begin.

THE BASICS
THE GAME

Gehenna is an RPG; A game of storytelling between you and your friends. This is done through a back-and-forth conversation between The Players and The Gamemaster. Because the content is up to imagination under a ruleset, the possibilities are endless in a way that can't be recreated with video games.

While many RPG's offer epic adventures with characters that Level Up, Gehenna is not this. In Gehenna, everyone is doomed to die in the end. Don't worry about preserving anything; Live and play like an animal!

The flow of the game consists of:
  1. The GM will explain the current situation.
  2. Players may choose to make an action at any given moment.
  3. The GM may allow for the action to be made, or initiate a Skillcheck(s) to determine outcomes.
  4. Repeat.
THE PLAYERS

The role of a Player is to create a character, and immerse yourself in their position. Act as them, speak as them, use them as a vessel to explore the story! As a Player, your actions are what directly affect the plot. In Gehenna specifically, Players are encouraged to make questionable decisions, as Gehenna is built to give Players the tools to play problematic, flawed, and unconventional characters. Have fun playing with risk!
THE GAMEMASTER

The role of The Gamemaster is to direct the story being unfolded by The Players. A Gamemaster keeps track of every Player's condition, and tailors the story to their behavior. It is a very important role, requiring wit, improvisation, tracking of variables, and game knowledge. What should make a great Gamemaster is the enthusiasm to let gripping events and intense moments play out from improvisation.

MECHANICS
SKILLCHECKS

Skillchecks are dice rolls made to determine results, usually from something dependant on a Skill. Such as checking whether a monster is strong enough to break out of his chains through Strength, or whether a player has enough Composure to not be frightened by his surroundings.

There are a few elements that make up a Skillcheck:
  1. The Dice - A Skillcheck may ask for a dice roll to be made with a D4, D6, or even D20. This is either written or determined by the GM.
  2. The DC - Or the "Difficulty Check". This is a number that your dice roll must be equal to or greater than to succeed.
  3. The Modifiers - Modifiers are numbers you add to your dice roll. The GM will often state which Modifier you should add to your roll. An example being, if you are making a Skillcheck for pickpocketing someone, the GM will likely ask for you to add your Dexterity score.
